Services for Maj. Gen George S. Patton will be held next Wednesday in Massachusetts where the one-time 2nd Armored Division commander died Sunday of complications of a form of Parkinson’s disease.
Patton was the son and namesake of the World War II general whose colorful personality and daring exploits became the stuff of military legend.
The younger Patton took command of the 2nd Armored Division at Fort Hood in 1975.
He retired from the military in 1980 after a career during which he served in Korea, earned a Purple Heart in Vietnam and was twice awarded the Distinguished Service Cross for bravery in combat.
After retirement, he founded a farm in Hamilton, Mass.
Patton is survived by three sons, two daughters, six grandchildren and a great-grandson. He will be buried at Arlington National Cemetery.
