WACO (March 2, 2010)—Waco police officers who were initially dispatched to investigate car break-ins Wednesday afternoon in the parking lot of Gold’s Gym at Franklin Avenue and Waco Drive recovered an SUV-load of items that may have been stolen in burglaries cross the state.
Thieves broke into at least three cars Wednesday in the gym’s parking lot.
A witness provided officers with a detailed description of the two men involved and officers later spotted the men in an SUV, which they pulled over in the parking lot of a nearby business.
Inside the SUV they found debit cards, sunglasses, cash, wallets, clothing, stereo systems, gym bags, keys, jackets and shoeboxes.
There was so much potentially stolen stuff in the SUV that detectives were sent to the scene to help officers sort through the items recovered from the vehicle.
Investigators don’t think the two men are from the Waco area and police said many of items recovered from the SUV appear to have been stolen elsewhere in Texas.
A wheelchair-bound woman in her 80s from Grand Prairie was also riding in the SUV.
Victim’s Services personnel took her to the police department.
Police said relatives were en route Wednesday evening from Grand Prairie to pick her up.
