(July 23, 2007)--More than 120 street gang members have been arrested in raids in North Texas cities.
Immigration officials announced Monday several of those arrested during the weeklong operation are US citizens with pending warrants.
Some already been returned to their home countries or are being processed for deportation.
Others are being prosecuted for re-entering the US following deportation.
Arrests were made through Sunday morning in Arlington, Farmers Branch, Irving, Fort Worth, Dallas and Wichita Falls.
The federal arrests with help from local law enforcement were part of Operation Community Shield.
The effort started more than two years ago after the feds identified the MS-13 gang, or Mara Salvatrucha.
US officials found many gang members were foreign-born, were in the country illegally or had criminal convictions.
