(July 24, 2007)--Opponents of a coal-fired power station that TXU plans to build in Central Texas have sued environmental regulators.
The lawsuit claims the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality violated state health laws in June by granting the air permit.
A coalition of city and county leaders whose members include both Waco and McLennan County is asking a judge to reverse the decision.
The TCEQ voted 2-1 to approve the air permit for the two-unit plant in Robertson County, which Dallas-based TXU says is needed to meet future energy demand.
The Central Texas Clean Air Coalition filed the suit Friday in Travis County.
The Texas Clean Air Cities Coalition whose members include Waco and McLennan County filed a similar lawsuit the same day.
A TCEQ spokeswoman had not seen the lawsuits and declined comment.
Two administrative law judges recommended last year that the air permit be denied.
