DALLAS (March 8, 2010)--A shootout late Monday morning outside a north Dallas bank building left the gunman and two other people injured.

The shootings happened just before 11 a.m. at the 15-story Four Forest high-rise office building near the intersection of U.S. 75 and Interstate 635, which houses the United Texas Bank and other offices.

Sr. Dallas Police Cpl. Kevin Janse said the gunman walked into a third-floor financial services office, shot a 63-year-old man in the legs, and his 39-year-old son in the neck.

The victims were later identified as Richard Smith and his son R. Chris Smith.

After three police officers arrived, the man came out of the office and pointed his gun at them.

The officers fired several shots without hitting the man, who went back into the office where he shot himself in the head.

Early reports indicated officers had shot the gunman, who was in critical condition early Monday afternoon at the nearby Medical City Dallas hospital.

The father and son were in stable condition at Medical City Dallas with gunshot wounds.

Bank customers and employees took refuge in the vault after the shooting.

The office building was temporarily locked down.
