KILLEEN (March 9, 2010)—A 44-year-old man who held his girlfriend at gunpoint Monday afternoon at an apartment at 2399 Jennifer #6 in Killeen was on life support Tuesday in the intensive care unit of Scott & White Hospital in Temple.

Police responded to a report of a domestic disturbance at the apartment at around 3:45 p.m. Monday.

Officers were told the man was armed and that he wouldn’t allow his girlfriend to leave the apartment.

Residents were evacuated from other apartments as officers attempted to negotiate with the man, but he didn’t respond.

Officers were eventually able to talk to the woman who said she was unharmed.

Just after 5 p.m. she was allowed to leave the apartment.

She left the front door open, and officers attempted to negotiate with the man, who was still armed, police said.

After hearing gunshots inside the apartment, Tactical officers entered through the open front door and an open kitchen window, and discovered the man was barricaded in the bathroom.

They again tried to convince him to surrender, but then an officer heard another gunshot.

The tactical officers forced entry into the bathroom and discovered the man had shot himself in the head.

He was taken to Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center and was later transferred to Scott & White.

His name was not released.
