(July 25, 2007)--A Travis County prosecutor confirms that his staff is investigating Texas Supreme Court Justice Nathan Hecht after Hecht allegedly accepted discounted legal fees from a law firm.
The confirmation comes in a letter issued by District Attorney Ronnie Earle.
Campaign finance watchdog group Texas Watch this week filed a complaint with Earle.
The complaint alleges Hecht was charged discounted legal fees by the Jackson Walker firm to successfully defend him from abuse of office charges.
Hecht prevailed in fighting a sanction by the State Commission on Judicial Conduct.
The commission alleged he abused his office to promote his friend former White House counsel Harriet Miers of Dallas for a seat on the US Supreme Court.
She later withdrew her name.
Hecht has said he recused himself from hearing cases involving Jackson Walker's attorneys during the time he was being represented by the firm.
He didn't immediately comment Wednesday.
