ITALY (March 11, 2010)-A off-duty Department of Public Safety trooper who was shot Tuesday at the home of another trooper in the small town of Italy remains in stable condition, the DPS said.

Authorities say that it appears Trooper Clint Shoemaker shot himself.

Texas Department of Public Safety spokeswoman Lisa Block had no other details on the incident and said Wednesday that the Texas Rangers continue to investigate.

Shoemaker was taken to a Dallas hospital where he underwent surgery following the March 9 shooting.

He graduated from the DPS Academy in September 2008 and has been stationed in Waxahachie since then.

The shooting happened just after 5 p.m. Tuesday in the 600 block of Rhonda Lane in Italy.

Police tape surrounded the home on Tuesday night.

Neighbors told News 10 they didn't know anything was wrong until they heard news helicopters above and saw all the patrol cars in front of the home.

A Texas Ranger could be seen walking into the home on Tuesday night.

If he was cheating he deserves everything he got. I know of a DPS trooper that is nothing but a Sexual Predator. He preys on any woman that is willing, he takes video and pictures of them. Then holds it over their heads so they either keep sleeping with him or send him pictures and video of themselves doing whatever he tells them to do. I know of this only because a friend of my got involved when she was severely depressed because of her ex husband. The talked to this DPS trooper because he was suppose to be a "friend". That was four years ago and he is still hounding her and getting what he wants, she won't tell me what he has on her but I have seen some video and pictures of what he has done to her. This gives all DPS troopers a bad name. Yes, he is married with children and grand children.

For everyone that is making their own speculation. There are three people that know exactly what happened. The two troopers and the Ranger that is investigating. For anyone else trying to do an armchair investigation, speculation or assumption, mind your own business. Even though these Troopers are employees of the state, this is by all means a private matter as far as anyone except the Troopers, Ranger and DPS is concerned. Hope the Trooper is doing OK regardless of how this happened.
