FORT WORTH (March 10, 2010)--A study released Wednesday finds a plausible connection between a series of North Texas earthquakes and a disposal process used after natural gas drilling.

A dozen minor quakes were reported in a few Dallas suburbs from the fall of 2008 through last spring, and another dozen too small to be felt were detected by equipment, the study says.

The largest was a 3.3-magnitude quake.

No major injuries or damage were reported.

The Southern Methodist University and University of Texas study says the quakes occurred during the time wastewater from the gas extraction process was injected into a deep disposal well near the quake sites.

The study does not include information about a series of earthquakes last summer in Cleburne, about 50 miles southwest of Dallas.

To LN;Robinson. Most of the West Texas Oil-Fields plugged the non producing wells 30-40 years ago, and most if not all of the Drilling Rigs are moth balled sitting in Company yards. Very little oil is presently pumped out of the Permian Basin. And the Edwards Plateau is the water aquafer.

This "study" is so bogus it is ridiculous. If drilling and pumping oil causes earthquakes then why hasn't the Edwards Plateau region of west Texas been having earthquakes? They have been drilling for oil out there for 60 years. More idiots trying to make oil and gas out to be the bad thing to force more studies and make fuel even more expensive to try and force us to quit using oil. Bunch of loons.
