GEORGETOWN (March 10, 2010)—Kesen Hu, 34, pleaded guilty Wednesday in Georgetown to criminally negligent homicide and endangering a child in the death of his 18-month-old son, who was accidentally left in the family’s minivan for more than six hours in August 2009.
Each count is punishable by as much as two years in a state jail, but Williamson County District Attorney John Bradley noted that both charges allow for probation.
Hu says he was supposed to take his boy to daycare last August, but was distracted by a cell phone call and instead drove to his workplace in northwestern Austin.
His son was left in the minivan with the windows up for six hours before Hu remembered the toddler and raced out to the vehicle, where he found his son dead.
Hu and his attorney said it was a tragic mistake.
