BELTON (March 11, 2010)-A Bell County grand jury has indicted a Killeen man on a murder charge in connection with the January shooting death of 18-year-old Karon Counts.

Willie Lee Netter, 21, a Louisiana native, was arrested in Vivian, La., on Jan. 12.

Netter is charged with shooting Counts at about 9:45 p.m. Jan. 6, as Counts sat in the back seat of a car parked in the 2800 block of Cantabrian Drive in Killeen.

Officers discovered Counts lying across the backseat of the vehicle, shot in the neck.

Ambulance attendants determined he had no pulse and was not breathing. A witness who was standing nearby told police he had been standing outside of his vehicle with Counts in the backseat when Netter came out of a home across the street, carrying a rifle.

The arrest affidavit indicates Netter fired the rifle into the air and then at the driver's side window of the car, which is when Counts was hit.

Counts was taken to Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center at Fort Hood where he was pronounced dead at 12:50 a.m. Jan. 7.

Bell County First Assistant District Attorney Murff Bledsoe said the events are thought to have taken place after a party at one of the neighborhood houses.
