WACO (March 11, 2010)--Visitors to Waco's Cameron Park Zoo can greet the zoo's newest big cat, Kucing, a Sumatran tiger.
Kucing is a young male that was sent to the Cameron Park Zoo from the Wild Animal Park at the San Diego California Zoo.
Kucing celebrated his first birthday last November.
He was only recently introduced to the zoo's youngest female tiger, Maharani, which will be four years old in May.
The addition brings the zoo's tiger population to four and keepers are hopeful the new paring will produce tiger cubs in the future.
In the meantime, Kucing and Maharani will alternate on exhibit with the zoo's older tigers, Sobat and Kali.
Sumatran tigers are critically endangered with fewer than 400 to 500 remaining in the wild because of destruction of their natural habitat on the Indonesian Island of Sumatra.
