WACO (March 15, 2010)—A leaking natural gas line that prompted the evacuation of nearly 200 children from a nearby daycare center and forced authorities to block off Highway 308 just off Interstate 35 Monday morning in Elm Mott has been repaired.

An Atmos crew completed repairs Monday afternoon.

The Connally ISD’s Elm Mott Center, a daycare for 3- and 4-year-olds, was evacuated as a precaution Monday morning.

District officials moved 120 Pre-K and 65 daycare children from the center to Connally Primary School.

Parents were notified of the evacuation and picked up children at the primary school.

The Elm Mott Center reopens Tuesday.

The wind dispersed most of the fumes Monday, but authorities were keeping people away from the immediate area.

The leak was in a line near a doughnut shop, across from the First Baptist Church of Elm Mott.

It appears a motorist accidentally drove over a gas-line marker, which punctured the gas line.

Lucky that this wasn't a bigger tragedy than it was, and everybody was/is safe. Atmos natural gas pressure is about 5-6psi., but one spark would ben disasterious

Dah...the important thing here is that everyone is safe. Thanks to CISD and the professional way this matter was handled to keep our children safe. I was there and even though a little chaotic,as you would expect, it WORKED. Thanks again to all involved to make this work. My family appreciate you.
