HOUSTON (March 15, 2010)--A collision Monday between a transit bus and light-rail train in downtown Houston sent 19 people to hospitals.
None of the injuries was reported to be life threatening, according to a statement from the Metropolitan Transit Authority, or Metro, which runs Houston's bus and light-rail system.
Police said the accident happened about 2:10 p.m. Monday at the intersection of Main Street and St. Joseph Parkway, a block north of Interstate 45.
Metro transit police are investigating.
Most of the 19 who were taken to hospitals complained of neck and back injuries, officials said.
Last month, a similar downtown collision between a bus and light-rail train sent nine people to hospitals.
In that accident, the bus driver evidently ran a red light and the bus struck the train.

As they say 'take the bus and leave the driving to us'. Not a good idea in Houston.
Okay, somebody needs to say this, so I will. I have been to Houston many times and have seen the transit train system. It shares the same roads as vehicles!!! This is the second accident in the last couple of weeks. Common sense says that trains and vehicles don't mix. Please Houstonians, do the common sense thing and raise the rail system to overhead or do something else to get the trains off the same travel routes as cars!
This light rail train is always involved in accidents. Sounds like a lot of whiplash.
