STEPHENVILLE (March 16, 2010)—A 42-year-old man was in the Erath County Jail Tuesday after a woman was stabbed in the back while watching her children play in Stephenville City Park.

Stephenville police Chief Roy Halsell said the attack Sunday afternoon on Brandi Janell Todd, 28, of Morgan Mill was evidently unprovoked.

He said several witnesses followed a man from the park, and one pointed him out walking nearby.

Todd was in serious condition Tuesday at Harris Methodist Fort Worth hospital, a spokeswoman said.

Meanwhile, Michael Allen Howard, 42, of Stephenville was in the Erath County Jail Tuesday in lieu of $750,000 bond, charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Howard told the Stephenville Empire-Tribune that he has been a mental hospital patient for 20 years.
