Baylor University Regents did not vote on the future of embattled president Robert Sloan, Board Chairman Will Davis told reporters after regents ended three days of meetings on the Baylor campus.
Regents emerged from the meeting at about 11 a.m. Friday, an hour earlier than expected.
The board took no action on Sloan, but did affirm support for Vision 2012, the ambitious effort to elevate the university to the top tier of U.S. colleges and universities.
“The Regents of Baylor University reaffirm our commitment to Vision 2012, and recognize the positive impact it has made to our campus and in the lives of our students,” said the statement released by the board.
Critics said board support for Sloan was waning, but a vote on Sloan's future was not on the agenda as regents arrived for the three-day summer meeting Wednesday.
Regents voted 18-17 in May in support of Sloan's presidency, but the Committee to Restore Integrity to Baylor, which opposes Sloan's leadership, says changes in the composition of the board could produce a different result if regents were to vote this week.
Sources close to the university told News Ten this week that Sloan had rejected buyout offers of as much as $2 million and Sloan told the Associated Press that he intends to remain in the job as long as regents allow him to.
Critics say Baylor is burdened by nearly $250 million of debt, rising tuition and declining enrollment.
