The biggest recall involves seven million Polly Pocket play sets produced before Nov. 1, 2006.

Those toys have small magnets that can become detached and that are easily swallowed.

If a child were to swallow two or more, the attraction between the powerful magnets could cause intestinal blockages, the Consumer Product Safety Commission said Tuesday.

The CPSC says there are three reports of serious injuries to children who suffered intestinal perforations are swallowing more that one magnet.

The play sets, which were made in China, were sold from May 2003 through November 2006.

About a million Doggie Day Care play sets sold from July 2004 to August 2007 and about 683,000 Barbie and Tanner play sets sold from May 2006 through August 2007 are being recalled for the same reason.
Mattel is also recalling about 253,000 “Sarge” die cast toy cars, which could contain toxic lead paint.

The recall comes a week after Fisher-Price recalled almost a million toys because of excessive amounts of lead in their paint.

The 83 types of toys include the popular Big Bird, Elmo, Dora and Diego characters.

The worldwide recall involves plastic preschool toys made by a Chinese vendor and sold in the US between May and August.

The recall was the first for Fisher-Price and parent company Mattel involving lead paint.
