(August 21, 2007)--The next time someone says 'I'm not much of a reader,' there's data to suggest they're not alone.
An Associated Press-Ipsos poll has found that one in four adults say they read no books at all in the past year.
The poll finds that the typical person claims to have read four books in the last year, as half read more and half read fewer.
Excluding those who hadn't read any, the usual number of books read was seven.
Of those who do read, women and seniors are most avid, and religious works and popular fiction were the top choices.
A third of men and a quarter of women fit into the no-books category.
They tend to be minorities, older, less educated, with lower income, from rural areas and less religious.
