(Sullivan, accused of overseeing a long-running conspiracy to hide operating expenses in order to boost WorldCom's earnings, later admitted guilt and was sentenced to five years in prison; Yates later pleaded guilty to securities fraud and conspiracy and agreed to help prosecutors.)

Prosecutors in Colorado abruptly dropped their case against John Mark Karr in the slaying of JonBenet Ramsey, saying DNA tests failed to put him at the crime scene despite his repeated insistence he'd killed the 6-year-old beauty queen.
