(August 28, 2007)—Central Texas residents who got up for the show probably weren’t disappointed early Tuesday morning as the Moon crossed into the shadow of the Earth, producing a total eclipse that lasted for 90 minutes.

The passage started just before 3 a.m. Tuesday, and just before 5 a.m. the color of the Moon changed to a sunset red as the eclipse reached totality.

It was the deepest and longest lunar eclipse in seven years, experts said.

The eclipse was visible from Australia, parts of Asia and most of the Americas, but not from Africa or Europe.

The view in Central Texas wasn’t bad, but West Coast sky watchers got the best look as the entire eclipse unfolded in the post-midnight sky.
