Car-Train Collision Claims Life Of Third Central Texas Child

ROCKDALE (May 26, 2010)-The third child involved in Monday’s train-car collision has died.

A Bryan Department of Public Safety dispatcher confirmed Wednesday the death of 4-year-old Keeyati Hancock.

DPS reports Hancock passed away at 4:42 p.m. Tuesday at Scott and White Hospital.

His body was taken to Phillips and Lukey Funeral Home in Rockdale.

The two other boys who died when a train struck the car in which they were riding Monday at a crossing in rural Milam County were identified Tuesday as Monterious Hancock, 9 and Ahkeem Williams, 8.

Monterious Hancock was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

Ahkeem Williams was flown to Dell Children’s Hospital in Austin where he later died.

Keeyati Hancock and the driver of the car, Teri Lynn Williams, 40, of Rockdale, were taken to Scott & White Hospital in Temple.

Williams was in stable condition, but the boy was listed in critical condition Monday night.

The accident happened at around 4 p.m. Monday on a private drive along U.S. Highway 79 near Rockdale.

A Department of Public Safety trooper told News 10 the driver of the 2009 Dodge Charger was likely distracted when she pulled out in front of the oncoming train, which struck the Dodge on the driver’s side.

DPS investigators said the driver was the only one wearing a seat belt.

There were no warning lights or crossing gates at the intersection to signal an approaching train.
