(September 7, 2007)--A Waco-area minister has been arrested on child pornography charges.
But Henry Edgington tells authorities he was doing research to get some Web sites shut down.
The 63-year-old Chalk Bluff resident is minister at the Elm Mott Church of Christ near Waco.
He's free on $70,000 bond after he was charged with seven counts of child pornography possession.
Waco police say a relative found a box containing child pornography at Edgington's home and approached Waco Police Department Crimes Against Children detectives last week.
Police spokesman Steve Anderson says the department has jurisdiction in Texas to investigate crimes brought to its attention, even though Edgington lives in a Waco suburb.
Anderson says Edgington told detectives he downloaded the porn to give to a congressman to have the Web sites shut down.
But Anderson points out that, "Unless you have a badge, it's illegal to look at child pornography, no matter what your motive."
