Fifty-eight-year-old Cuban Refugee Magali Arojo told The Associated Press in a phone interview Friday that she's feeling stronger and doing much better after spending two months adrift with five other Cubans.
Arojo remains hospitalized in Corpus Christi.
The Cubans were weak, malnourished and dehydrated when their 30-foot boat washed up on Mustang Island late Wednesday.
The Border Patrol processed the five men.
Two were released to relatives from Dallas. The other three were
put on a bus to join relatives in Miami.
Authorities believe the six left Cuba on a raft on June 25.
They reportedly purchased a 30-foot boat, water and fuel in
the Cayman Islands five days later before setting out for Mexico.
From there they planned to slip into the U.S., but the trip evidently didn’t go quite as planned.
Their boat finally reached shore near some condominiums in Corpus Christi, which is where authorities found them on Wednesday.
"They did not where Corpus was until we showed them on a map, and then they could not believe how far off track we were,” said Randy Pendleton of the U.S. Coast Guard.
