Good morning, it’s Sunday, July 4, the 185th day of 2010. There are 180 days left in the year. This is Independence Day. We’ll start the day in the mid 70s with clouds, some sun and at least a slight chance of more rain, mainly in the afternoon. Highs will rise into the lower 90s. A slight chance of rain remains in the forecast overnight with lows in the upper 70s.

Thomas Jefferson wrote the Declaration of Independence after the Continental Congress named him, John Adams Benjamin Franklin, Robert Livingston and Roger Sherman to a committee to produce a draft. Adams went on to succeed George Washington as the second president of the young country. Jefferson defeated Adams to become the third. The two men resolved their differences in retirement and became close friends. And on July 4, 1826—the 50th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration, Jefferson died at his home in Monticello just hours before Adams passed away at his farm in Quincy. According to several sources, Adams’ last words were, “Thomas Jefferson survives.”
