Texas Man Charged After Visiting Son Beaten, Killed For Not Sleeping

HOUSTON (July 12, 2010)—Alex Duncan, 34, was charged with murder Monday in the death of his visiting 6-year-old son after the boy was beaten for not falling asleep, Houston police said.

Harris County Jail records indicate Duncan was held Monday on a murder charge in the death of Tekerrious "T.K." Jackson.

His bond was set at $50,000.

Police say the boy, who lives with his mother but was visiting father, died early Sunday.

Sgt. Brian Harris says the father is accused of punching the boy in the chest because the youngster’s eyes were closed and he wasn’t trying to sleep.

Police believe the boy was made to kneel, with his arms extended in front of him, for as long as eight hours.

Duncan's girlfriend, Tammyra Lanette Sampson was charged with injury to a child by omission.

Houston police say Sampson told investigators she once stopped Duncan to show him "how to properly discipline a child with a belt."

Her bond was also set at $50,000.
