WASHINGTON (July 13, 2010)--Authorities identified the 11-year-old boy who died of injuries after a car struck him in Georgetown as Zachary Hodges.

The boy suffered a severe head injury when a car struck him at around 6 p.m. Sunday in the 1600 block of Wisconsin Avenue in northwest Washington near 33rd Street.

He died Monday at a Washington hospital.

He was with his parents and brother at the time of the accident Sunday, said Ed Solomon, public safety chairman of the Georgetown Business Improvement District.

The family was visiting Washington at the time of the accident, police said.

Police said the 21-year-old woman driving the car and her passenger were not injured and remained at the scene.

Officials continue to investigate the crash.

My prayers go out to his family at this very delicate time. May he rest in peace now that he is in Gods hands. He will always be in our hearts for ever.

This makes me so sad. My prayers to the family. Traffic here is crazy and pedestrians have a hard time. People drive fast, and are texting, using their phone and READING while driving around here all the time. Pedestrians are killed frequently. Yes, they take chances that they shouldn't when crossing the street, but drivers do not yield properly when pedestrians ARE following the rules. God bless this young child's soul. May all that is holy protect and keep his family. Everyone, please be mindful of the horrible traffic and rude, careless drivers when you visit the Nation's Capital. If drivers would JUST drive and focus on what they are doing and maintain a safe speed, it would go a long way to saving lives.

What a tragedy for this family. My sympathies to them during this horrible loss. When I was in D.C., the Georgetown traffic was among the worst that I had ever seen.
