The manhunt is over for the second of two Central Texas prison inmates who killed a guard as they escaped late Monday morning.

(September 24, 2007)--The manhunt is over just north of Huntsville for an inmate who escaped from the Wynne Unit of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice after he and another prisoner overpowered a guard and then drove over her.
The guard, who hasn’t been identified, died of her injuries.
Prisoner Jerry Martin and another inmate, John Ray Falk, were working in a field at the prison along Interstate 45 when they overpowered the officer supervising them late Monday morning, took her weapons and stole a Huntsville city vehicle that was nearby.
Falk was caught, but Martin ran into a wooded area along Interstate 45.
Texas prison officials said Martin was recaptured after lawmen on horseback using bloodhounds searched a wooded area for several hours.
He was caught in a tree, Texas Department of Criminal Justice spokeswoman Michelle Lyons said.
Martin was serving a 50 sentence after his conviction in 1997 on two counts of attempted capital murder in Collin County.
He now faces a capital murder charge in the guard’s death.
