AUSTIN (August 02, 2010)-A second-floor balcony of a condominium in Austin collapsed early Sunday, sending 23 people to the hospital with injuries.

The collapse happened about 4:15 a.m. Sunday during a party at the Garden Court Condominiums, about 4 miles southeast of downtown Austin.

Austin Fire Lt. Randy Elmore says about 30 people were on the balcony when it collapsed; 23 people were taken to University Medical Center-Brackenridge with injuries ranging from minor scratches to bone fractures, Elmore said.

Hospital spokeswoman Lauren Picarello says all but five of the patients had been discharged as of early Sunday afternoon.
