A&M's Record Enrollment Highest In The State

COLLEGE STATION (September 26, 2013)--Texas A&M University says fall enrollment hit a record high of nearly 59,000 students, ranking the school first in the state.

The university says in a statement Thursday part of the increase is because of the acquisition of a Fort Worth-based law school and the return of a medical program.

As of Sept. 20 the university had 58,809 students, A&M said.

The numbers are not expected to change the university said.

Nearly 54,000 students are on the school's main campus in College Station.

The university says there are more than 25,000 women enrolled at the school, which until 50 years ago was an all-male institution.

The enrollment figures come on the heels of a recent announcement that Texas A&M had raised a record $740 million in donations the past year.
