ROBINSON (January 8, 2013)—Accidents that were likely weather related were backing up traffic Tuesday morning on Interstate 35.

Northbound traffic was limited to one lane after a collision involving an 18-wheeler just south of Waco near mile marker 327.

A Texas Department of Public Safety trooper at the scene said at around 8:30 a.m. Tuesday the truck driver who was northbound on the highway hit the brakes and the slick road surface caused him to lose control of the rig, which jackknifed and skidded across the northbound lanes, crashing into a concrete barrier.

The crash resulted in a small fire that the driver and some other motorists were able to extinguish quickly.

The driver suffered minor injuries, but was not taken to a hospital.

The TxDOT spokesman was advising drivers choose an alternate route if possible.

There was no immediate estimate on how long it would take to clear the roadway of debris and return traffic to normal flow.

Accidents were also reported on the interstate in Temple and north of Waco.

In Temple, a northbound 18-wheeler jackknifed at mile marker 301 Tuesday morning after the driver tried to slow down as a vehicle in front of him began to hydroplane on the wet interstate.

The accident snarled northbound traffic until the lanes were reopened just after 10 a.m.

No one was hurt.
