HOUSTON (April 4, 2014) An air pocket saved the life of a driver who "floated" from her car about 45 minutes after the vehicle plunged into Lake Houston, authorities said.

Information about the woman’s condition wasn’t available Friday, the Houston Fire Department said.

Firefighter Kenyatta Parker said the woman, whose name wasn't immediately released, was conscious when she was taken to a hospital Thursday morning.

Some witnesses who were fishing nearby saw the car go down a boat ramp and into the water.

They called 911.

The woman "floated out" of a broken window as the car was pulled from the lake about 45 to 50 minutes later, Harris County sheriff’s Sgt. Kim Fonville said.

Fonville says an air pocket saved the woman's life.

Investigators aren't sure why the car went in the water.
