Alcohol Poisoning Sends 11 Rice University Students To The Hospital

HOUSTON (October 29, 2012)--Eleven Rice University students who attended on-campus "Night of Decadence" Halloween party were treated for alcohol poisoning.

Ambulances were sent early Sunday to assist with transporting the students to a hospital, the school said in a statement.

Officials said all 11 students were treated and released.

Organizers said more than 1,000 people attended Saturday night's party at which alcohol was available for students of legal drinking age.

The Wiess College dormitory hosts the event.

Rice's dean of undergraduates, John Hutchinson, said school officials will meet with the 11 students to determine if they need alcohol abuse treatment.

Hutchinson says students organize the party, which has been an annual event since the early 1970s.

He said usually three or four students require medical attention.
