HARKER HEIGHTS (September 13, 2013)--CheKenya Windham, 23, a non-custodial mother who took her infant daughter from a home in Harker Heights, triggering an Amber Alert Thursday, won’t be charged, police said Friday.
Windham was released from custody after the Bell County District Attorney’s Office reviewed the case, which will be forwarded to Child Protective Services, police said.
The 7-month-old infant, Kyndle Windham was taken at around 11:55 a.m. Thursday from a home in the 2100 block of Diana Loop in Harker Heights.
She was found at around 4 p.m. in the 900 block of Adams Avenue in Killeen and was placed in the custody of CPS.
CheKenya Windham was taken into custody about an hour earlier at Fort Hood, police said, and led officers to the infant, who had been left with a friend.
