HOUSTON (October 22, 2013)--Police in Houston were detaining a man Tuesday after an ambulance stolen from outside a hospital emergency room slammed into a highway pillar.
Investigators were trying to determine whether the man was a patient who was seeking treatment at the time the ambulance was stolen Monday night from outside Memorial Hermann Southwest Hospital.
Sgt. Walter Gaw says police received a report about an ambulance being driven in an unsafe manner.
The ambulance’s lights were flashing and sirens were blaring before the vehicle crashed into an overpass pillar, police said.
The suspect wasn't injured.
