Area Officer Accused Of Tripping Students After Soccer Title Game

GEORGETOWN (April 22, 2014) Georgetown police officer George Bermudez was on paid leave Tuesday after a video surfaced that appears to show him tripping and pushing students as they rushed the field after a state soccer championship game.

The video appears to show Bermudez tripping one student and grabbing another one after the girls’ soccer team at Vandegrift High School in the Leander ISD beat Wiley East High School and students rushed onto the field to celebrate.

Georgetown police spokesman Roland Waits says Bermudez's actions were not appropriate measures for crowd control.

The incident has been referred to the police department's internal affairs unit.

Parents who witnessed the incident were upset, Leander School Board President Pam Waggoner said.
