HUNTSVILLE (October 10, 2013)—Howard Wayne Lewis, a prison guard involved in a child custody dispute, was jailed Thursday, charged with capital murder in the death of his son at a Central Texas home where the toddler's maternal grandmother was also found slain.
The charge stems from the death of Lewis’ son, Aiyden, who was strangled.
The beaten body of the toddler’s grandmother, Shanta Crawford was also found dead at the Huntsville-area residence.
Crawford’s husband found the bodies when he arrived home from work July 24.
Bond was set at $1 million for Lewis, who was arrested Wednesday.
Texas Department of Criminal Justice records show Lewis worked at the Hutchins Unit in Dallas.
His employment status was pending amid the investigation.
