Helicopter Crash On Texas Post Leaves 1 Dead, 3 Injured

A helicopter crash during a training exercise on a Texas post left one soldier dead and three others injured.

FORT BLISS (May 5, 2014) One solider died and three others were injured when their helicopter crashed during weekend training exercises at Fort Bliss in El Paso.

Sgt. Dwight Burn, 27, of Barstow, Calif., died when the CH-47 Chinook in which he was flying crashed Saturday night near Orogrande, N.M.

Another crew member and the two pilots were injured.

The four soldiers from the 82nd Combat Aviation Brigade from Fort Bragg, N.C., were taking part in high-altitude mountainous environment training at the time of the crash.

Nobody on the ground was injured, Fort Bliss spokesman Lt. Col. Lee Peters said Monday.

Two of the injured soldiers were expected to be released, while the other will remain hospitalized.

The investigation of the crash could take as long as six months to complete.
