BELL COUNTY (March 24, 2014) Christian Charlene Bohannon, 25, of Killeen, who according to an arrest warrant affidavit beat an elderly Bell County man to death with a golf club during a burglary, was jailed Monday in lieu of $1 million bond, charged with capital murder.

Bohannon was arrested without incident over the weekend, Bell County Sheriff Eddy Lange said during a news conference Monday.

She’s charged in the death of Jack B. Ray, 83, who was found dead on Oct. 12, 2013, in the yard of his home on FM 439 east of Killeen.

Authorities determined that his bedroom had been ransacked.

Bohannon, the affidavit says, “provided oral and written statements that she had planned to ‘hit a lick” at Jack Ray’s house and described ‘hitting a lick’ as stealing items from the home.”

“The suspect stated that during the course of stealing things the victim was hit with a golf club,” the affidavit said.

A pathologist determined the wounds Ray suffered in the attack were consistent with repeated blows from a golf club, the affidavit said.

Ray was a lifelong Killeen resident who worked for many years as a civil engineer at Fort Hood and also operated his own ranch.
