Arrests Made In Rural Burglary; Which House Was Destroyed By Fire

CAMERON (March 5, 2013)—A partially-burned stolen travel trailer provided evidence that led to the arrests of a man and two juveniles in connection with a break-in earlier this year in rural Milam County in which a house was destroyed by a fire that the burglars set, evidently in an attempt to cover their tracks, Milam County Chief Deputy Sheriff Chris White said in a press release Tuesday.

The burglary occurred during the first week of January at a home on County Road 342 from which a number of items were stolen before burglars set the fire, White said.

The burglars also stole a travel trailer, which was later found in a field south of Thorndale, White said.

Despite an attempt to burn the trailer, fingerprint evidence was recovered that led to complaints charging Herman Griffith of Thorndale with arson and burglary of a habitation, White said.

Griffith was in the Williamson County Jail Tuesday, where he’s held on unrelated charges.

The investigators also found evidence and information that led to the arrests of two juveniles from Milano.

Their names were not released.

Deputies Lt. Chad Marek and J. Beathard were credited with the investigation that led to the arrests.

“I am proud of all the work my investigators put into this investigation, we covered a lot of ground with very little to go on,” Milam County Sheriff David Greene said.
