WACO (June 24, 2014) Four young children who were seriously injured Monday afternoon in a rollover crash that left the man driving the SUV dead remained at McLane Children’s Scott & White Hospital Tuesday.

The driver, Vincent Hall, 37, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The four children, Ashton Rhodes, 7, Christian Rhodes, 6, Vincent Hall, Jr., 5 and Vinte-Vyon Hall, 4, were taken first to Baylor Scott & White Hillcrest Medical Center in Waco and were later transferred to McLane.

Tuesday Ashton Rhodes was in critical condition and the other three children were in fair condition, a hospital spokesman said.

The accident happened at around 3 p.m. Monday at a turnaround on the Highway 6 access road just past Chappel Hill Road.

Police say the Chevrolet Trailblazer in which the man and children were riding left the roadway between two overpasses, flew off the median and struck a pillar.

At least two of the children and the driver were thrown from the vehicle, police said.

It doesn’t appear that any of the occupants of the SUV were wearing seat belts, police said.

Two men who witnessed the accident said they ran to help.

One said he turned off the ignition of the SUV, which was still running, while a second grabbed a fire extinguisher as smoke began to come from the vehicle.

A fire official at the scene said the man who died in the crash was the father of the four children who were injured, but police could not confirm the relationship.
