LORENA (July 11, 2013)—Authorities Thursday identified the man who died Wednesday afternoon in a one-vehicle crash on Interstate 35 south of Lorena between Waco and Temple as James Dewey Eddins II, 22, of Lorena.

Eddins was a passenger in a southbound pickup truck that overturned between Woodlawn and Telephone Roads on the interstate.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver, who was identified Thursday as Robert Kenneth Peters, 34, of Eddy, was taken to Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center in Waco.

Information about his injuries wasn’t immediately available.

Both men were wearing seat belts, authorities said Thursday.

Traffic backed up in the area of the accident and by late afternoon the backup stretched north for seven miles, the Texas Department of Transportation said.

The accident scene was cleared by around 5 p.m., but took some time to untangle, TxDOT said.
