Attempt To Stop Speeding Motorcyclist Leads To Standoff At Rural Home

MCLENNAN COUNTY (September 27, 2012)—A 26-year-old motorcycle rider who attempted to elude a Department of Public Safety trooper Thursday afternoon in Elm Mott north of Waco was arrested after a brief standoff at a relative’s home.

The man was facing an evading arrest charge Thursday evening, authorities said.

The motorcyclist was riding at around 2:45 p.m. Thursday on FM 308 toward Gholson Road west of Interstate 35 when he passed the trooper, who was headed in the opposite direction.

The trooper made a U-turn in an attempt to stop the rider for speeding, but instead of stopping, the motorcyclist pulled off the road onto private property, ran into a house that authorities say belonged to a relative, and refused to come out.

Troopers waited until McLennan County sheriff’s deputies arrived and then entered the residence and took the man into custody without incident.

He was not armed.
