SNYDER (March 18, 2013)--The FBI said Monday it has joined the effort to identify a badly decomposed body found over the weekend in Scurry County in West Texas.
An FBI spokeswoman said Monday the agency was asked to assist by the Texas Department of Public Safety to collect evidence at the scene.
The DPS said officers removed the remains Sunday from an undisclosed location in Scurry County near Snyder.
DPS Trooper Sparky Dean said further details about the site weren’t made public as investigators seek to preserve the scene.
A person reported finding the remains Saturday afternoon in an isolated, rural area of the county.
Officials didn’t disclose the possible gender or approximate age of the person.
An autopsy was ordered, Dean said.
