Autistic Texas Boy On Bike Killed By Allegedly Drunken Driver

HOUSTON (January 13, 2014) A man whose pickup truck struck and killed a 12-year-old autistic boy who was riding a bicycle has been charged with driving while intoxicated and could face additional charges.

Alvester Bowens was killed instantly Saturday when he was struck as he rode his bicycle along a high-speed overpass in southwest Houston.

Bowens had been reported missing after he got separated from his father hours earlier during a bike ride Saturday.

Houston Police Department officer A. Michon said the child was in the middle of the freeway when he was struck by the Ford F-150 truck.

The crash may have been unavoidable, authorities said.

Gilberto Aguirre was charged with DWI and the Harris County District Attorney’s Office will decide whether to file manslaughter charges.
