TEMPLE (March 22, 2013)—A Temple man found dead in his home suffered a single gunshot wound to the head, police said Friday afternoon.
Police, who earlier described the death as suspicious, but provided no further details, said they're now investigating the death as a homicide.
Officers found Russell Hamby, 50, dead in his home in the 3100 block of Monroe Avenue at around 5:20 p.m. Wednesday after responding to a report of a deceased person, police said.
Hamby’s body was sent to the Southwestern Institute of Forensic Science in Dallas, which provided a preliminary report to police Friday.
Police think the weapon used in the shooting was a handgun, but would not say whether a gun was recovered at the scene.
Hamby had lived alone in the large house for about 10 years.
Neighbors said they noticed that Hamby’s truck wasn’t parked in the usual manner at the house, but police wouldn’t say whether the vehicle had been moved or tampered with.
Investigators are asking anyone with information about the shooting to call the Temple Police Department at (254) 298-5500.
