COPPERAS COVE (September 2, 2014) Bees that forced Copperas Cove officials to close a portion of a local walking trail have been removed and the trail has been reopened.
The 100-yard stretch of South Park Trail behind Mattie Drive and Guy Circle in Copperas Cove was closed late last week because of a potentially aggressive swarm of bees.
Most of the bees were removed Thursday, but the section of the trail remained closed through the weekend because more bees were believed to be inside an infested tree.
On Tuesday the city announced that the bees have been successfully removed and the trail has been reopened.
