TEMPLE (May 17, 2013)—Southbound traffic on Interstate 35 was reduced to a single lane Friday afternoon in Temple after an 18-wheeler dumped a 40,000-pound concrete culvert on the highway between exit 299 and exit 300.
It’s not clear why the rig lost the culvert, but authorities said the cables may have snapped or the truck it may have been overloaded.
As a result, the rig hit the concrete median barrier several times and the trailer broke in two.
No one was hurt, but crews were left with a big mess to clean up.
They were drilling holes in the culvert so they can attach cables with which to lift it, but authorities were concerned that it might roll, which would cause even more problems.
