Big Rig Rolls; Driver Taken To Local Hospital

By: Kristin Gordon Email

NOLANVILLE (February 16, 2013)—An 18-wheeler hauling steel pipe overturned late Saturday morning on U.S. Highway 190 just outside of Nolanville, leaving the driver trapped in the wreckage of the cab.

The truck was westbound at around 11:45 a.m. Saturday when it veered off the highway, crossed a grassy area to the service road, hit a guardrail and overturned just before the Paddy Hamilton Road exit.

Firefighters had to free the driver from the wreckage, but he did not appear to be seriously injured.

He was taken to Seton Medical Center in Harker Heights for evaluation.

The service road from the accident scene to Paddy Hamilton Road was closed because of the accident and authorities said it would take several hours to clear the roadway.

The steel pipes the rig was hauling spilled on the road as a result of the crash and there was a small fuel leak, which was contained.
