WACO (May 14, 2013)—A 67-year-old man whose body was found late Tuesday morning in Lake Waco was the victim of what evidently was an accidental drowning, police said.
The man’s name wasn’t immediately released because relatives haven’t been notified.
A witness said she spotted an empty boat floating just offshore and a truck and a boat trailer on a ramp in Speegleville Park.
She said she and others secured the boat and then spotted the man's body floating in the water.
Police and firefighters were sent to the park at around noon Tuesday.
It appears the man fell into the water while trying to retrieve the drifting boat, Waco police Sgt. Steve Drews said.
He was in the water for about 30 minutes before his body was found, Drews said.
