Teenager Arrested In Death Of Man Found In Texas Motel Bathtub

HOUSTON (August 6, 2014) A 17-year-old suspect was in the Houston City Jail Wednesday facing charges in the death of a man who was beaten, choked and stabbed and left in a bathtub in a motel room.

The 35-year-old victim was killed early Tuesday at the Tropical Motel, police said.

The teenager left the motel shortly afterward, driving the victim's car, police said, and was stopped for a traffic violation.

The teenager’s clothes were bloody and he later confessed to the killing, police said.

The teenager and the man argued in the room before the killing, police said.

An employee of the Tropical Motel found the man’s body.

The teenager, Carlos F. Mercado, was charged with murder later in the day and was ordered held without bond.

The dead man was identified as Carlos Villatoro, 35.
